I am passionate about the science of human behavior and connecting with others to offer support, understanding and maybe a new perspective.
As a certified Eye Movement Densitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist I specialize in assisting individuals who have experienced adversity, especially in the early developmental period of childhood, to identify aspects of their life they want to improve and help guide them on a path of finding change. While some of my clients have experienced identified traumatic events, many of my clients describe their life as "perfect" in most ways but continue to experience symptoms of anxiety or depression.
Through a passion for research and my own personal experiences I have found that new information can help transform our perspective to allow us the ability to create understanding and change when needed.
After a decade in the social services field, working with individuals with special needs and at-risk youth, I went back to school to pursue a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Drake University. Through educational and professional experiences I have provided therapy services to individuals of all ages for a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, addiction and trauma related stress.
I love working with individuals, one on one, but I also love sharing the attainability of mental wellness with the community. I often collaborate with schools, have written articles for local websites and have been interviewed by local new stations to discuss various mental health topics. In my free time I research mental health topics and serve on the Iowa Mental Health Counselors Association board as the Networking and Communications Chair and Central Iowa Aces 360 Steering Committee. So, basically, I live for this!
